Spanish Energy Storage Market November 17, 2023 Spain is one of Europe's most promising PV and energy storage markets. The Spanish government has put forward several clean energy policies to stimulate the vitality of the local market. In recent years, along with the impact of energy shortages caused by regional conflicts, Spain is accelerating the pace of energy transition, and energy storage has become a key part of it. The sun seems to always shine in Spain. The year-round abundant sunshine is God's favoritism to this land and creates a unique clean energy market for the region. As one of the countries with the most abundant light in Southern Europe, developing photovoltaics is a must for Spain to realize its energy transition. In 2019, the Spanish government adopted the National Energy and Climate Plan (2020-2030) (NECP), which explicitly proposes that by 2030, the proportion of domestic clean energy power should reach 74%. Reality, however, seems to be pushing for this goal to be realized more quickly. Over the past two years, energy shortages and high electricity prices brought about by regional conflicts have been a huge challenge for most European governments and populations. Accelerating the realization of solar energy and other clean energy penetration and storage has become the main goal of many European countries. To maximize the use of clean energy and improve system flexibility and network stability, the Spanish Government has approved a key energy storage strategy, which is expected to reach about 20 GW of storage capacity by 2030, while by 2050 this figure is expected to grow to 30 GW. Meanwhile, the Spanish government launched the Power Transition and Recovery Programme (PRTR), increasing the total subsidy from EUR 660 million to EUR 1.32 billion in June this year, which has injected new vitality into the PV and energy storage market in Spain. In the field of residential energy storage, more and more households are opting to install PV systems, and the introduction of energy storage technology is providing these households with better energy support and sustainability. In addition, back in 2018, the Spanish government canceled the "solar tax", allowing households to have distributed PV storage systems connected to the grid at no extra cost, which undoubtedly inspired households to install solar panels and generate electricity on their own. In Spain, electricity tariffs are divided into different bands according to the capacity of the electricity supply. For users whose power supply capacity exceeds a certain fixed bracket (e.g. 5KW), in addition to paying fees based on the amount of electricity consumed, they also need to pay additional fees for power supply capacity. As a result, lower-power single-phase electricity has long been the dominant choice for Spanish households, with LV energy storage products becoming the preferred option. With the continuous iteration of photovoltaic systems and energy storage technologies, many solar photovoltaic systems as well as lead-acid batteries and colloidal batteries are becoming obsolete and are facing the problem of replacement, and the market is in urgent need of higher efficiency, higher capacity and smarter energy storage products. In response to the specific market situation, Dyness has launched a variety of LV residential storage products with rated voltages of 48V and 51.2V, which are not only compatible with customers' existing solar PV systems, but also realize a good alternative to lead-acid batteries and colloidal batteries. Dyness series products all use stable and reliable lithium iron phosphate batteries, and adopt modular design to support multiple parallel connections, to meet a variety of application scenarios, in line with the local market demand. In addition to LV  residential storage products, Dyness is also optimistic about the potential of the local market for HV storage products. A new trend is emerging in the Spanish market, where the renewal of residential and commercial buildings is driving the market from single-phase to three-phase power, and opportunities for LV products are brewing. Dyness has launched its flagship Tower series, a stackable, adaptive module design offering five energy options ranging from 7.10kWh to 21.31kWh, which is well suited to three-phase homes. Also, in response to the demand for high-voltage energy storage products for large-scale household energy storage (30kWh and above) as well as small and medium-sized industrial and commercial needs (up to 500kWh), Dyness has also launched products that meet the corresponding capacity requirements. However, there are more and more energy storage vendors and products emerging in the current Southern European market.  Based on advanced research and development technology, Dyness's products are not only easier to operate when connected in parallel, but also have a certain cost advantage. Compared with other types of products in the market, Dyness's products have more parallel connections and are more expandable. Moreover, Dyness has focused on building excellent customer service and has established a localised customer service team, which is able to respond quickly to customers' needs and provide them with suitable solutions within 48 hours. Through excellent service support, Dyness has been widely recognised by customers and won a good reputation. Regarding the current situation and future development of the market in Spain, the Iberian Peninsula and even Europe, Basilio Wang believes that overall ESS performance in the Iberian Peninsula region is maintaining a low persistence on the demand side. " The total amount of household energy storage in the mainstream Spanish market is about 1.4GWH in 2022-2023. If there is a lack of subsidies, it is normal to show a decreasing trend in terms of customer demand." In another dimension, the 2022 regional  conflict led to high conventional energy prices in Europe, while the cold winter was also a trigger for the existence of acute demand from customers last year. "The current gradual decline in energy costs has also pulled down market demand and growth." Basilio Wang judged that the subsequent market development in Spain depends on whether the subsidy policy can continue to land, the new government policy changes will also become one of its influencing factors.
