Frankfurt am Main, 20th October 2023 – LONGi Solar, a leading global solar technology company, and PVI GmbH (PV International, or PVI), a solar component and complete equipment wholesaler and subsidiary of Solar Ruhr Group, signed a 1.5 GW 3-year framework agreement on the supply of solar modules including LONGi’s highly efficient back contact modules Hi-MO X6. Modules from the contract will be used mainly for projects of other subsidiaries of the Solar Ruhr Group, but also for distribution purposes. The partnership underlines PVI's confidence in LONGi's pioneering role in the PV industry and recognizes the Hi-MO X6 as the best choice for PVI's customers.
“We are honoured and grateful for PVI’s trust in LONGi and our back contact series Hi-MO X6 which we just re-branded to show our clear commitment to back contact cell technology and their future viability. We firmly believe that back contact technology will be an important part of the solar industry's future, given its many and unique advantages”, said Nick Wang, Vice President of LONGi Europe Distributed Generation (DG).
Dr Oliver Klein, CEO of PVI GmbH added: “We chose LONGi as our partner because we recognise and value their ongoing R&D activities to improve efficiency and make new technologies mass marketable and cost competitive. Our customers can now benefit from the Hi-MO X6 as a module that delivers high energy yields - even in low light conditions. They are also our preferred choice because they provide a stable supply and are in a very healthy financial position.”
Back contact outperforms conventional technologies: Hi-MO X6’s generates 6 to 10 percent higher yield
LONGi’s Hi-MO X6 and the proprietary back contact technology HPBC deployed comes with a busbar-free frontside. Their absence maximizes the utilization of incident light, reduces optical losses, enhances conversion efficiency, and therefore improves LCOE (Levelized Cost of Electricity).
Today, it boasts cell efficiencies of up to 25.8 % outperforming conventional modules by 6 to 10 % in power generated.
LONGi decided to include a substantial portion of BC solar cell technology in its product portfolio. By the end of 2023, an HPBC production capacity of 30 GW will be in full operation. With a growing market share, back contact technologies are poised to emerge as the mainstream technology for crystalline silicon solar cells according to the company.
